Newsweek's November 15, 2008 publication asks the question Is Obama the Antichrist?
The article begins eerily as on November 5, 2008 the Illinois lottery evening pick three winner was 666 (the mark of the beast). The article continues, "Barack Obama had drawn the attention of apocalypse watchers after an anonymous e-mail circulated among conservative Christians in October implying that he was the Antichrist. Former "Saturday Night Live" ingénue Victoria Jackson fueled the fire when, according to news reports, she wrote on her Web site that Obama "bears traits that resemble the anti-Christ." Now Strandberg was receiving up-to-the-minute news from his constituents in Illinois. One of the winning lottery numbers in the president-elect's home state was 666— which, as everyone knows, is the sign of the Beast (also known as the Antichrist)."
The Newsweek article continues, ". . . Obama triggers such fear in the hearts of America's millennialist Christians. Mat Staver, dean of Liberty University's law school, says he does not believe Obama is the Antichrist, but he can see how others might. Obama's own use of religious rhetoric belies his liberal positions on abortion and traditional marriage, Staver says, positions that "religious conservatives believe will threaten their freedom." The people who believe Obama is the Antichrist are perhaps jumping to conclusions, but they're not nuts: "They are expressing a concern and a fear that is widely shared," Staver says."
However, the whole intent of Newsweek and the author Lisa Miller in printing this article that will appear in Newsweek dated November 24, 2008 is not to legitimize that there may in fact one-day be an Anti-Christ who is the World leader who in fact controls the New World Order that will bring about Christ's second coming. No, what Lisa Miller and Newsweek are advocating with this article is that there are a lot of Christians we must fear because there thinking is way out in left-field, they see Obama as the Anti-Christ.
I take a practical and logical approach to this whole question of whether Obama is the Anti-Christ? Heck No!! My sixteen year old son honestly believes Obama is the Anti-Christ, and I know that some of my friends hold fast to that same belief. I believe they are giving Obama too much credit, hey I have seen the guy talk without a tele-prompter, I have also seen the guy's interaction with average Joe's. My gut is telling me this guy is no Anti-Christ, I do not believe he can run the USA well, let alone the world. Would the Anti-Christ have a gaffe in his first press conference as President-elect? Heck No!!! Would the Anti-Christ let his grandma die before she could have voted? Heck No!!! Would the Anti-Christ not provide a Certified Birth Certificate to prove birth and citizenship? Heck No!! The list could go on and on. Obama is no Anti-Christ but he sure is a socialist, maybe even a marxist.
Here are the key biblical references that describe the Anti-Christ and maybe there is an argument on each one for Obama, but Obama is no descendant of the Roman Empire:
The anti-Christ will be a descendant of the people who made up the Roman Empire in Biblical times (Daniel 9:26), and he'll arrive on the world scene as a peace maker (Daniel 8:25). He won't be part of the world's powerful elite at the beginning of his career (Daniel 7:8) but will rise up among them to eventually surpass them and become the leader of the entire world. (Rev. 13:7-8)
He will cause deceit to prosper, and he will consider himself superior. When they feel secure, he will destroy many and take his stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be destroyed, but not by human power. (Daniel 8:25)
This means that he'll base his success on a lie, misrepresenting himself and his intentions, but people will want to believe him so badly that they'll disregard his inconsistencies until it's too late to stop him. Initially he'll seem successful, but just when they're saying “Peace and safety”, destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains to a pregnant woman, and they won't escape (1 Thes. 5:3). From an article by Jack Kelley, "The Anti-Christ and Mr. Obama."
I do not believe Mr. Obama will be successful, he may use a lie, deceit, or propaganda to move his socialistic agenda, however in the end Obama will fail, because he espouses a system that is prone to failure. Is Obama the Anti-Christ? HECK NO!!
