D-DAY INTERVIEW WITH DARWIN, THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION WOULD NOT BE BELIEVED IF HUMANS WERE SWISS TIMEPIECES

As I mentioned in The Lincoln Interview today is Charles Darwin's birthday, today he is 200 years old, just like Lincoln.  However, the sad note is that D-Day is getting more play-time in the news and blogs.  You see in 1859 Charles Darwin published his work "The Origin of Species," in that work he laid out the Theory of Evolution.  The Scientific American published an article with a hypothetical interview, using Darwin's own words, I am just reposting three of the questions with Chuck's answers.

Did you have doubts about the content of truth in the Holy Scriptures even while you were on the Beagle?
On board the Beagle I was completely orthodox, and I recall how several officers laughed at heartily when I quoted the Bible as an irrefutable source on some point of morality. But during the period from 1836 to 1839, I had slowly come to understand that the Old Testament, with its evidently wrong history of the world, its Tower of Babel, its rainbow as a sign, and tendency of ascribing to God the sentiments of a revengeful tyrant, were no more worthy of credence than the holy scriptures of the Hindus or the beliefs of a savage. Despite all my powers of deluding myself, it became more and more difficult to find proof enough to satisfy me.

And that is how faithlessness stalked me and took hold over me slowly, till I became totally disbelieving.

So you are an atheist?
I think it would be more and more appropriate to call me an agnostic, in general and as age advances.

Do you see your lack of faith as a loss, then?
Disbelief crept in on me so slowly that I did not feel any discomfort, and since then, never have a doubted for even a single second the correctness of my conclusions. And I cannot really understand, either, how anyone might want to believe that Christianity were true, because if it were, then, in the plain terms of the text, it is said that people who do not believe would be punished for eternity, and that would include my father, my brother and almost all my best friends. And that is a terrible doctrine!

Mr Darwin, my name is Lex Rex, I am the reporter for "The Invisible Hand,"  and I just want to ask you a few questions:

Lex Rex:  Mr. Darwin, who in your opinion makes the finest timepieces in the world and if you can be specific which company?

DARWIN:  "That is a very simple question, the finest watches or timepieces come from the little nation of Switzerland.  For decades and decades the Swiss have manufactured via art and craftmenship the finest timepieces in the world.  The finest watch I have ever seen was hand crafted by the Swiss Watch Company Girard Perregaux.

Lex Rex:  Mr. Darwin, that is very interesting, in fact I am wearing a Girard Perregaux Timepiece, I want to show you a picture of the front and back of this masterful hand crafted watch.  Mr Darwin, if you had never seen a watch like this before and you found this timepiece in the woods, what would be the first thought that comes to your mind?

DARWIN:  If I found this magnificent timepiece in the woods, and I had never seen a watch before, my first response would be, who was the master that made this timepiece.

Lex Rex:  Let me get this right Mr. Darwin, you are saying that this timepiece had to be created and formed by the hands of a master?

Darwin:  That is right.

Lex Rex:  Do you think, Mr. Darwin, that this Timepiece could had been thrown together by chance?

DARWIN:  Don't be absurd boy, a fine timepiece of this sort can only be manufactured by the hands of a master!!!!

Lex Rex:  What is the difference between finding a human  or finding a fine swiss timepiece, is not a human more intricate and masterfully made?

DARWIN:  THIS INTERVIEW IS OVER, YOU ARE AN IGNORANT . . . .

Ask a child these same questions, and there is no difference, a human is fearfully and wonderfully made, a trillion times over than the finest Swiss Timepiece.
