AP is reporting 67 year old late term abortion doctor, George Tiller was gunned down this morning at the Reformed Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas. Sources close to the investigation say that George Tiller is dead.
George Tiller was at church were he served as an usher.
Today my family and I arrived to the western end of Old Route 66 the Santa Monica Pier and the Will Rogers Plaque. As we should all practice it is not about the destination, but the journey. Just as Will Rogers showed us, his life was one journey after another and so our lives should be lived in the moment enjoying and learning from the journey.
Our Route 66 journey started from Springfield, Missouri and today began at the first McDonalds, which is located in San Bernadino, California on "E" street which at one point was Route 66.
One thing Route 66 taught me is that Route 66 carved a deep imprint into America's culture that extends pass the pavement of the hiway. Route 66 gave us Commerce, Oklahoma and Mickey Mantle, Will Rogers, McDonalds, marketing ( Free 72oz Steak, Burma Shave), and many more, but the most important thing Route 66 gave to USA is hope for a better future.
This is the theme or inspiration of our journey.
And Route 66 suprized me again, an encounter with President Obama. Around 3:00 pm today on the Historic Route 66 on Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills, we passed the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel and a handful of protesters. The protesters were mainly people that I assume voted for Obama, because they were protesting California's marriage between a man and a woman amendment and also Obama's stance on releasing more torture photographs. As I saw all the police and secret service I thought even the ones on the left are upset with Obama.
As I drove past the Beverly Hills Hilton, I wondered if Obama knows he is spending the night on the Historic Route 66? My guess, probably not. You see President Obama has different view of America that gave us Route 66. Route 66 is based on the individual, hard work, small towns and faith, and Obama by his actions despises all of the above. My advice, stay in a Teepee and read Will Rogers.
Travelling the Historic Route 66 gives you a little extra surprise down each mile. The longest unspoiled section of Route 66 lies in the Western part of Arizona. When Interstate 40 was built a section of Route 66 was bypassed from Seligman, Arizona to the California Border. The section remains today as a picture of Route 66. In fact the creators of the Disney / Pixar movie "Cars" used this section as the theme and storyline of their movie.
About 25 miles west of Seligman lies a world famous attraction that has served travellers since the 30's, the Grand Canyon Caverns. The attraction was so popular in the 50's that Route 66 was widen to four lanes around the attraction laying claim to the first four lane hiway in Arizona.
Today the four lane section remains and the attraction is still a must see as being a dry cavern only a few in the world are available for public access.
At 10:00 am this morning my family and I descended the 21 stories into the dry cavern. The suprise that I did not see coming is that the Kennedy Administration and the U.S. Government prepared to use this as a fallout shelter during the Cuban Missle Crisis. In one of the photos you can see hundreds of 17.5 gallon barrels of water and crates of crackers from 1963. The fallout supplies placed there from the Kennedy Administration are still there, unspoiled and because of the lack of humidity less than 4%, the water and crackers are still edible. I found this all fascinating not only because the supplies are still there but by the fact Kennedy was making preparations for the "what if?".
Today, the USA is at a crossroads with two rougue dictators and the nations of North Korea and Iran. By all accounts they both have nuclear weapons and the rhetoric toward the USA by both nations is reaching heightened concern and potential fallout. So, my question, is Obama planning or is this situation above his pay grade and he does not know what to do? I do not have the answer, but I do know Israel is prepared for Iran and Israel will go it alone if necessary.
I also know a great place you can go to ride out the storm if either one of these dictators gets trigger happy, the Grand Canyon Caverns.
Memorial Day, the USA's national day to remember or like Obama to play golf and pause for a moment of silence. I spent the day travelling from Gallup, New Mexico to Seligman, Arizona on old Route 66, with a side trip to the Grand Canyon.
Last night my family and I stayed at the El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, New Mexico. The hotel was built in 1937 to accomadate Hollywood. Westerns were a mainstay in the golden age of Hollywood and Gallup was at the center of the best scenes for making Westerns. So, a hotel was built and it thrives today on old Route 66.
A frequent guest in those Hollywood years was Ronald Reagan. In fact I saw several photographs signed and unsigned of Ronald Reagan hanging in the massive two story lobby of the El Rancho Hotel. That same night my family and I ate at the restaurant in the hotel and they had "The Ronald Reagan" sandwich, which is a hamburger with bacon and cheese served with a side of jelly beans. My son ordered that for his entrée and I explained how Ronald Reagan loved his jelly beans. It also brought back the memory the last time I was in California, I was there when Ronald Reagan passed away. Now, my family and myself are on the way to California via Route 66 and I remember Ronald Reagan.
Ronald Reagan typified America, especially small town America, he was a gentleman who respected and loved people. That is why I am sadden when some conservatives and Republicans say that, "we must move past Ronald Reagan."
This is a falsehood, because being conservative is being a person who basis their belief and view of government upon principles. Ronald Regan embodied those principles and was a champion of the ideal that the individual is the one ordained by His Creator with unalienable rights and that the role of government is to preserve those rights, not the other way around.
I know one thing, on Memorial Day Ronald Reagan would honor those who have died for our freedoms in a way that is most deserving and he would spend the day serving the American people instead if playng golf.
Thirteen miles of original Route 66 Portland concrete that is what you hit after driving through the ghost town of Texola, Oklahoma. The Texas state line and the thump, ka-thump of concrete to the journey. After seeing Texola, a town that looks deserted after Interstate 40 was built to the north of Route 66 and Texola. I immediately think back to a line George Bailey said in the movie "It's a Wonderful Life," this is not exact, "it is the small town people that do the most living and dying.".
George Bailey is right, the small town is the heart of our republic and sometimes eventhough it is America's heart, politicians and especially President Obama ignore and legislate laws and policy that impact or destroy small towns. By getting off the interstate and driving the old Route 66 you see the best in America like family, faith, community and work ethic. I also noticed how many Chrysler, Dodge & jeep dealers are in these small communities along with Ford and Chevrolet. I do not have the Chrysler dealership closing list at hand, but I must assume most of these dealers will close or adapt. The impact of the largest business in a small town closing could eventually turn that town into a ghost town.
This is not a gloom and doom post because one thing about those that call small towns home is that they are rugged individualists that work hard and the super majority will adapt. That is the flip side to the problem of over government intrusion into our lives, when government legislates in the name of progress, you must adapt.
When the Interstate system was built it bypassed hundreds of small towns, but only a few died. The reason, the towns adapted, changed focus, so that they would survive and thrive, and this leads me to Tucumcari, New Mexico.
"TUCUMCARI TONITE and On Historic Route 66!" is their slogan and the town has adapted to tourists travelling Route 66.
The town has a handful of 40's and 50's style motels, the oldest is the Blue Swallow Motel built in the 1940's from surplus WW II cabins, but the one I stayed the night is the Motel Safari, just down and across from the Blue Swallow.
The motel is a classic motel that you would expect on Route 66, but it has been updated to modern standards. Wi-FI, flat screen TVs, pillow top mattresses, speakman showerheads, plush towels, & all with small town hospitality. The motel is American owned and is a must stay on Route 66.
Here, is a town and here is a motel that is thriving because they wanted to live, so they adapted, they changed and now they have inspired me, because the point is:
myself, you as an individual, the business owner of Motel Safari, and residents of small towns have more control over their destiny than President Obama has or the government has, we the people do the most living and dying and yes we control our destiny and our lives not the government.
I have not heard it lately, but a few months ago President Obama was going on how the USA's economy was the worst since the Great Depression. In one week alone I heard him exclaim that phrase over twenty times. At that time I had a Disney Cruise booked for my family. But I began to think if this economy is like the Great Depression, what am I doing taking a cruise? I cancelled my cruise, but I had the Memorial Day week planned for time off, so I thought, "how about a great depression vacation.". I know, vacation and Great Depression do not go together. By the way today's economy and Great Depression do not go together either, but my point is I am on a Great Depression vacation in honor of Obama's embellishment; a Route 66 journey.
As I type this blog my family and I are driving on Old Route 66 in Oklahoma on our way to California. We are taking the journey that so many families in the 1930's took to find employment in California.
Last night I had trouble finding a motel with a vacancy sign out front, the problem was NO Vacancy (apnother sign of the Great Depression). Around 11:00 pm we found the Will Rogers Inn in Claremore, Oklahoma, the birthplace of Oklahoma's Favorite Son, Will Rogers.
This morning we went to pay our respects to a man that lived through the Great Depression and who brought humor and wisdom to so many lives. Eventhough he never met a man he did not like, I wonder what Will would think of Obama and Obama's use of a perceived disastor to take over the USA's economy and socialize some of America's icons in business? I think I know and if you ever read Will, you know too.
Just remember, "but if you want to have a good time, I don't care where you live, just load in your kids, and take some congenial friends, and just start out. You would be surprised what there is to see in this great country within 200 miles of where any of us live. I don't care what state or what town." Will Rogers the optimist would say, not only that he would laugh at Obama and say something wise. More to come as I get my kicks on Route 66.
If you are like me, sometimes you need to turn off the news, throw away the paper, quit reading blogs, and listen to a song that lifts you up. Here, is a home made video by LEX REX of the Praise & Worship song by Remedy Drive, ALL ALONG. This song has a great meaning because I have been there, trying to fill that emptiness with things, expectations, money, dreams, etc. But the materialism of this world, just does not satisfy, there is only one thing that will fill that emptiness, watch the video and find out.
"America, What a country?" the Russian comedian Yakov Smirnoff would always say. Well, today many people trying to learn english as a second language are saying, "English, What a language?' Take for instance the simple word flip-flop. That is easy, it is a noun and refers to a type a shoe, more specifically a backless sandal held to the foot by a thong between the big toe and the second toe. On to the next word, but wait not so fast, flip=flop can again be used as a noun and mean: a decision to reverse an earlier decision. And again, as a noun, flip-flop is a backward somersault. Flip-flop can also be used as a verb, for example, Obama flip-flops. The point, I am trying to make is that the English language can be very tough to learn as a new language, there are so many nuances to even simple words, not to mention slang and geographic usage. This also introduces an article by Karl Rove that appears in the Wall Street Journal,"Flip-Flops and Governance, Our President isn't quite as Advertised."
The point of Karl Rove's opinion piece is not that the favorite footwear of the president is a backless sandal, but that the President Obama has backtracked and reversed earlier decisions or has don the opposite of what Mr. Obama campaigned. In either case, Karl Rove does an excellent job of highlighting the Flip-Flops. He ends his article with this great conclusion:
Mr. Obama's appealing campaign images turned out to have been fleeting. He ran hard to the left on national security to win the nomination, only to discover the campaign commitments he made were shallow and at odds with America's security interests.
Mr. Obama ran hard to the center on economic issues to win the general election. He has since discovered his campaign commitments were obstacles to ramming through the most ideologically liberal economic agenda since the Great Society.
Mr. Obama either had very little grasp of what governing would involve or, if he did, he used words meant to mislead the public. Neither option is particularly encouraging. America now has a president quite different from the person who advertised himself for the job last year. Over time, those things can catch up to a politician. In my little experience, the reason a man flip-flops on decisions, as much as, Mr. Obama, is the fact the man is very unprincipled, in that, the person does not have a firm grasp on what they believe-in or what principles to base their lives upon. In other words, Mr. Obama lacks the discipline and principles to effectively lead this nation. -Lex Rex
CAN ANY NATION SURVIVE WHILE NEGOTIATING AWAY THE CRADLE OF ITS HISTORY?
For Israel a two state solution for peace in the middle east is not an option, the solution which the Europeans and Obama administration are pressuring the Israeli's to yield the land acquired by the Six Day War in 1967. The area is known as the West Bank, but it is actually the ancient and historical area of Judea in the South and Samaria in the North.
The cradle of Jewish history, from Hebron in the South to Jerusalem in the middle and Nablus to the North, this area is the root of all Jewish History and if Israel cuts the root, Israel will not survive.
This area has never fully known peace and in regards to the Arab-Israeli conflict peace will not come with the cutting away from Israel the root of Israel.
The former ambassador of Israel Yoram Ettinger recently explained the significance of this territorial stretch to students at Herbert W. Armstrong College. "Judea and Samaria is the heartland of the Jewish people, and a strategic necessity for preserving the independence of a Jewish state."
Judea and Samaria consist of the spine of Israel a continuous mountain range known as the mountains of Israel that provide a natural barrier and ideal strategic vantage point for the nation of Israel.
Many are aware of the Golan Heights to the North above the Sea of Galilee and how the Golan is a protective barrier and strategic high country that helps Israel control the Sea of Galilee and the waters of the Jordan river. Well, the mountains of Judea and Samaria are the golan heights of Jerusalem and the national and financial security of Israel. Eighty percent of Israel's population lives and the bulk of Israel's finance, economy and transportation arteries and industry exist in the coastal plain, and it is the hills of Judea and Samaria that provide security and a natural barrier.
Have you ever wondered why it took so long for Jerusalem to fall from the hands of the Turks? The reason Jerusalem is so hard to conquer is because of the Judea Mountains. General Allenby succeeded in World War I and conquered Jerusalem because he was aware of the territory and Biblical passageways that he was able to overcome the natural barrier of the Judea Mountains. General Allenby conquered Jerusalem were many had come before only to be defeated.
The key to Israel's security and existence is not a two-state solution, but Israel in control of its land and controlling Judea and Samaria, the root of Israel.
What lies beneath the statue? The clue to the destruction of freedom and liberty of the once great Republic built upon Unalienable Rights. I am not talking about the four-toed statue on LOST, but the head of the Statue of Liberty from the last scene of Planet of the Apes. Is this a picture of America's future? If it is, it will not be by nuclear destruction or an outside force, but will be brought to ruin from within. Today, Quin Hillyer focused his article on Obama the Destroyer.
He begins his article with the quote, "if somebody was deliberately trying to undermine the very fabric of these United States, he would first vow not to change its policies but to completely "change America," and then would do just about everything Barack Obama already has begun to do as president." HERE ARE THOSE THINGS IN NUMBERED FORMAT:
1.ATTACK THE ESSENTIAL SANCTITY OF CONTRACTS
2.DENIGRATE EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER THE LAW, A JUDGE IS NOT A NEUTRAL UMPIRE
3.RELEASE ONLY THAT INTELLIGENCE MEMOS THAT MAKE USA LOOK BAD
4.PRESIDENT WOULD TRIPLE SPENDING AND CUT OUR DEFENSE FORCES
5.STOP PAYING FOR MISSILE DEFENSE
6.STOP PLANNING FOR FORCES STRONG ENOUGH TO HANDLE TWO WAR TIME FRONTS
7.INSULT OUR CLOSEST ALLY REPEATEDLY
8.KOTOW TO OUR ENEMIES, IRAN, VENEZUELA, & CUBA
9.TRAVEL THE WORLD AND APOLOGIZE FOR THE USA'S PAST ACTIONS
10.ELIMINATE FUNDING THAT PROTECTS USA
11.NOMINATE AS U.S. ATTORNEY, A MAN THAT MOCKS THE LEGAL UNDERPINNINGS OF USA'S SOVEREIGNTY
12.RAISING TAXES ON CORPORATIONS, SMALL BUSINESS, INVESTORS, FAMILIES THAT USE PUBLIC ENERGY AND DRINK SOFT DRINKS
13.USE PARLIAMENTARY MANEUVER CALLED "reconciliation" TO TAKE CONTROL OF USA'S HEALTH CARE
14.THROW OUT TWO CENTURIES OF CAPITALISM IN FAVOR OF COMMUNISTIC SOCIALISM
This is just the first four months of Barack Obama's presidency, these are the signs of an America that is overly government-ally controlled, overburdened with taxes and debt and unable to stand and defend against outside aggression. If you happen upon this post in some archive, and you wondered about the Green Statue of the Lady holding the flame. That was a once mighty symbol of United States, known as the Lady Liberty. The reason the Statue is half gone and on the beach is because of an enemy from within. On January 20, 2009, the enemy of the USA, an American took control of our highest office and dismantled piece by piece the fabric of our Republic and the flame of liberty was destroyed, it was destroyed by Barack Hussein Obama, the enemy from within.
